Investigate and Replace Investigating Officers in 'Gel' Case Over 10% Bail Money Demand
The Buriram Provincial Police Commander has ordered an investigation and immediate replacement of investigating officers accused of demanding a 10% fee from the 1 million baht bail money in the case of 6-year-old Gel, who was fatally struck by a 32-year-old teacher's car while crossing a pedestrian crosswalk.
The incident involves Kanokwan Prasongsant, a 32-year-old teacher from Nakhon Ratchasima, who hit Gel (Kanyawee), a 6-year-old first-grade student from Ban Dong Yo School, on January 22nd near her school. The case has escalated with dramatic developments, including the teacher initially agreeing to take responsibility but then denying fault and challenging legal action.
Police Commander Vorayut Chanyiem stated that after reviewing the case, he has ordered an immediate change of investigating officers and established a committee to investigate the allegations. He emphasized that the primary role of investigating officers is to ensure justice for all parties and that any inappropriate conduct will be strictly disciplined.
