Italian Man Nearly Collapses After Accidentally Throwing Away 20 Gold Bars Worth 4.5 Million Baht in Garbage
On February 17, 2026, an extraordinary incident occurred in Italy when a 57-year-old man accidentally threw away 20 gold bars valued at 142,000 US dollars (approximately 4.5 million baht) in a public garbage bin. Police officers helped search through garbage for hours and successfully recovered the gold bars. The incident took place on February 12 in the seaside village of Torre Lapillo, part of Porto Cesareo in the Apulia region. The unnamed man had disposed of his regular trash without realizing a tin box containing years of gold bar collections was also thrown away. After discovering the gold was missing the next day, he immediately reported to local police. Authorities checked CCTV footage, confirmed the box was in the public trash, and traced the garbage to a local landfill. After carefully searching for several hours, they found the tin box - damaged but containing all 20 gold bars - and returned them to the relieved owner.
