Heated Exchange: Supachai Questions News Reporting of Campaign Speech, Sorrayuth Responds
On February 1st, 2024, Supachai Chaisamut, a list-based MP candidate from Bhumjai Thai Party, posted on Facebook questioning whether media reporting of campaign speeches during early voting is legally permissible. He specifically noted Sorrayuth's Saturday-Sunday program's lengthy coverage of Pracharath Party's social security policy.
Sorrayuth, a famous news anchor, fired back on social media, commenting on the heated debate about social security between various political parties. He challenged the criticism, stating, 'Which polling station? Who's putting a TV nearby? Political parties can campaign normally today, just stay away from early voting centers.'
The Election Commission had previously issued guidelines prohibiting candidates, political parties, and their supporters from campaigning, distributing materials, using campaign vehicles, or setting up campaign stages near central polling stations on the early voting day.
