Phoomtham Explains: Opposition Can Talk, But Governing Means Taking Real Action
On February 15th, Phoomtham Wechayachai, a Pheu Thai party leader, posted a message on Facebook about their decision to join the government with Bhumjaithai Party. He acknowledged that the decision might have both supporters and critics, which is the nature of democracy. The key question is not who is partnering with whom, but what the people will gain from this decision. While being in the opposition allows full freedom of speech, being in government means taking real action. Phoomtham stated they have chosen a path that will make policies tangible, with goals to move the economy forward, improve people's livelihoods, address drug problems, ensure national security, and reduce inequality. He stressed that politics is not about a party's dignity but about responsibility to the country. When given the chance to work, they will not stand idle. He emphasized respecting different opinions, especially from supporters expressing concerns about joining the government. 'Every opinion has value and will be used as important information to adjust the party's strategy and direction. For Pheu Thai, power is meant to improve people's lives, and the people's voice is our compass for decision-making,' Phoomtham said.
