Para-Athletes Overjoyed as Government Awards Over 144 Million Baht in Prize Money

Para-athletes celebrated as the government held an award ceremony on February 3rd, presenting prize money for medals won in three major competitions: the 13th ASEAN Para Games, 5th Asian Youth Para Games, and international championships (World and Asian titles) at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel. At the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thai para-athletes dominated with 175 gold, 155 silver, and 156 bronze medals, receiving total prize money of 128,280,000 baht across four sports associations. The Thai Paralympic Athletes Association received the lion's share with 124 gold, 101 silver, and 101 bronze medals, totaling 83,460,000 baht. In the 5th Asian Youth Para Games, the Thai youth para team finished 4th in Asia, winning 36 gold, 36 silver, and 33 bronze medals. At international championships, they further showcased their skills across multiple categories. Natthareya Thaveewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, praised the athletes, calling their achievement a historic moment that reflects the potential, commitment, and sacrifice of athletes, coaches, and all involved parties.
