Drunk Uncle Goes All Out, Gifts 5-Year-Old Granddaughter a Silver Bar as Red Envelope
During the Chinese New Year festival, when many typically receive red envelopes as lucky gifts, one young Chinese girl received an unusually lavish present. The incident occurred in Lin'yi, Shandong Province, China, where a man celebrating with drinks decided to gift his 5-year-old granddaughter a silver bar weighing 30 jin (approximately 15 kilograms), valued at over 300,000 yuan (around 1.3 million baht). The family was initially shocked by the extravagant gift.
Within less than a day, the child's parents discussed and unanimously agreed they could not accept such a high-value gift. The mother explained that beyond a 5-year-old being unable to handle such a valuable item, even adults would struggle with the risks of managing such an asset and potential family tensions.
The parents diplomatically contacted the uncle, thanking him for his intentions but explaining the gift was too valuable. When the uncle sobered up, he acknowledged his impulsive decision and took back the original silver bar, replacing it with a smaller silver bar worth only a few thousand yuan.
After the mother posted the video online, it sparked discussions about escalating 'red envelope competition', with many noting how gift-giving has become increasingly expensive. Many praised the parents' decision to refuse the expensive gift, emphasizing that red envelopes originally symbolize warding off evil and bringing good luck, not creating financial pressure.
