Intellectual Property Department Sweeps Major Stores, Seizes Thousands of Counterfeit Goods
The Intellectual Property Department collaborated with the Economic Crime Suppression Division to conduct raids on major stores in Bangkok, Northern, and Eastern regions. During a two-week operation from January 15-31, 2024, authorities arrested 25 suspects across 32 cases, seizing 11,811 counterfeit items from luxury brands including Chanel, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, and others.
The seized items primarily consisted of shoes, clothing, bags, socks, perfumes, and other accessories. The operation targeted retail and wholesale locations, including shopping centers, tourist areas, and storage facilities in various provinces. The goal was to prevent the distribution of intellectual property-infringing goods and boost confidence among tourists and investors.
For the year 2024, the department has integrated efforts with national police, customs, and special investigation units, resulting in 1,180 cases with seized goods valued at over 1.1 billion baht. The department calls on citizens to help combat counterfeit goods by not purchasing or supporting fake products and reporting any suspicious sales through their website or hotline.
