Grandmother Weeps, No More Beating: Fourth-Grade Student Bruised After Coming Home Late
On February 6, 2024, district officials from Nadi District, Prachinburi Province, along with social development workers and local authorities, investigated a case of a 10-year-old fourth-grade student who was frequently physically abused by his 72-year-old grandmother. They discovered the pair living alone in a small wooden house in impoverished conditions, with the child bearing bruises on his back and legs. The grandmother admitted to beating the child out of frustration because he consistently returns home late after playing football with friends. The village head reported that the child was beaten with a bamboo stick, causing swelling and bruising. During the investigation, the district chief obtained a signed statement from the grandmother promising never to beat or harm the child again, with the understanding that government agencies would intervene if she violated this commitment.
