Bust in Vietnam: Police Seize Two Tiger Carcasses and Tiger Bone Glue Equipment
On February 15, VNExpress reported that police in Thanh Hoa Province, central Vietnam, conducted a raid on the residence of Hoang Dinh Dat, 52, and discovered two tiger carcasses weighing approximately 400 kilograms in a freezer in the basement. They arrested Dat and later apprehended Nguyen Doan Son, 31, who was accused of selling the tiger remains. Vietnam is a major hub for illegal wildlife trade, particularly tiger products used in traditional medicine. Dat confessed to purchasing the tigers for 2,000 million dong (nearly 2.4 million baht) and was found with equipment for producing 'tiger bone glue', a sticky brown substance made by boiling tiger bones with herbs. This substance is typically mixed with wine and believed to treat bone-related ailments. Son admitted to buying the tigers from a Laotian man in the border area of Ha Tinh Province before transporting them to Thanh Hoa for resale.
