AOT Predicts Bustling Chinese New Year Flights, Reaching Up to 3,000 Flights Daily as Chinese Market Rebounds
Surachai Nuprom, Deputy Director-General and Acting Director-General of the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AOT), revealed that air travel in Thailand has become vibrant even before the Chinese New Year festival. Since February 10, 2024, there have been an average of 2,895 daily flight services, a 7% increase from the same period last year, with some days exceeding 3,000 flights per day. During the Chinese New Year festival from February 17-26, 2024, AOT expects a total of 29,096 incoming and outgoing flights, averaging 2,910 flights daily—an 8.3% increase compared to last year. Thailand-China international routes will have the highest volume, with approximately 330 flights per day, showing clear signs of recovery since January. Main airports during this period include Suvarnabhumi Airport (1,150 daily flights), Don Mueang Airport (700 flights), Phuket Airport (380 flights), and Chiang Mai Airport (220 flights). These numbers reflect tourist confidence and the recovery of international travel markets. AOT has prepared comprehensive air traffic management measures, including personnel, equipment, and technology preparations. They will coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure efficient and safe services, viewing this flight volume as a positive sign for Thailand's aviation sector's recovery.
