Samui Shocked! Fire Devastates Famous Tourist Destination, Burning Down 3 Stores in Rapid Succession
On February 16, 2024, a fire broke out at clothing and tailoring stores in the Fisherman's Village area of Koh Samui, Surat Thani province, creating significant panic among tourists and local businesses. Multiple emergency services, including police, firefighters, rescue teams, and electrical workers, rushed to the scene after the fire started on the second floor of Saona Collection, a women's clothing store. The flames quickly spread to Ginos Tailor, Samui Armani, and the second floor of Luna restaurant, creating thick black smoke visible from a distance. The narrow, densely populated area with numerous overhead electrical and communication lines made firefighting challenging, requiring careful water spraying and electricity line cutting. After approximately one hour, officials managed to control the fire. The clothing and tailoring stores were almost completely destroyed, with display mannequins and merchandise reduced to ash. The restaurant's upper floor also sustained damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as tourists and staff successfully evacuated in time. Police from Bo Phut station have cordoned off the area, awaiting forensic investigation. Preliminary assessments suggest an electrical short circuit as the potential cause, though official confirmation is pending.
