Intellectual Property Department Intensifies Efforts to Upgrade Music Copyright System

The Intellectual Property Department met with the International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) and Music Copyright (Thailand) Ltd (MCT) to develop and improve Thailand's music copyright system. The discussion focused on creating clear, transparent regulations to support businesses at all levels and push Thai artists' creative works into the international market. Key points of the meeting included improving copyright collection efficiency, creating reliable databases for rights verification, and developing systems that meet international standards. The goal is to help Thai music creators obtain international standard codes like ISWC and IPI, which would facilitate easier music export and online platform distribution. Currently, Thailand has multiple copyright collection organizations, which can confuse businesses seeking music usage permissions. The department is implementing regulations requiring these organizations to submit detailed collection information to a national committee, with potential legal consequences for non-compliance. CIAM representatives noted Thailand's music industry has high potential for global market growth and expressed readiness to support technical knowledge exchange to strengthen the national copyright system.
