Revealing the Behavior of Gold Thieves in a Central Bangkok Mall: Entering at Unusual Hours, More Than 149 Baht of Gold Suspected
Police officials, including Pol. Lt. Gen. Nopsil Poonsawat, met to discuss the details of a gold theft at a prominent shopping mall on Sukhumvit Soi 50 in the Phra Khanong area of Bangkok. The robbery occurred at 22:44 on January 30th, involving approximately 149 baht of gold and 170,000 baht in cash.
According to police investigations, the suspect entered the mall around 22:00, wandering for about an hour. The gold shop was technically closed since 20:00, but staff were counting remaining gold when the incident occurred. The store's front door was not fully closed, which the perpetrator exploited.
The suspect doused the area with oil and threatened to burn the place, causing the terrified staff to hand over the gold. After the theft, the criminal escaped on a motorcycle through the security checkpoint.
Currently, police believe the perpetrator acted alone but are not fully convinced. Four female staff members were present during the incident. The suspect was described as Thai, fully clothed, and face-covered, making identification difficult.
While initially reported as 149 baht of gold, investigators are now considering the stolen amount might be closer to 179 baht. Notably, only mall security personnel were present that night, with no specific security at the gold shop itself.
