Attackers Cause Chaos in Pattani, Planting Two Improvised Explosives at Same Gas Station Chain - Authorities Defuse Devices in Time
Attackers caused chaos in Pattani by planting two improvised explosives at two PTT gas stations owned by the same company. At 8:00 PM on February 3, officials were alerted to a suspicious object at a PTT gas station near the Pattani roundabout, discovering an improvised explosive hidden in the station's bathroom. The bomb disposal unit (EOD) was immediately dispatched. Shortly after, a second similar device was found at another PTT station near Big C mall, hidden in the disabled restroom near a convenience store. Fortunately, both devices were detected and safely defused before any harm could occur. Gas station owners reported immediately alerting authorities after the first device was found and ordered a thorough check of all stations in their network. Police Major General Santhad Chueputttal ordered an urgent review of nearby CCTV footage and instructed all gas stations in the province to increase security and report any suspicious objects immediately. Preliminary EOD investigation revealed both devices were digitally timed improvised explosives weighing under 5 kilograms.
