Editorial - Government Formation Mode
Thai politics is now entering full government formation mode, with the top-scoring political party seeking to gather support from other parties to secure over half of the 500 parliamentary seats. Recently, the Bhumjaithai Party has successfully gathered enough votes to form a government, after the Pheu Thai Party announced support for party leader Anutin Charnvirakul as the next prime minister. Additionally, several smaller political parties are ready to support the Bhumjaithai Party, bringing their combined parliamentary representation to nearly 290 seats. A government with such extensive parliamentary support is considered strong and relatively stable. The Prachachat Party, which came second in the election with 118 seats, will now serve as the opposition, balancing and scrutinizing the government through parliamentary mechanisms. There's a possibility that at least two more political parties may join the opposition, which would make Thailand's opposition front the strongest it has been. The political landscape shows complex negotiations and unexpected alliances, demonstrating that in politics, surprising partnerships can emerge.
