The family was extremely poor and unable to afford a phone to contact their grandson. The story began with a viral video showing the soldier's grandmother explaining her financial difficulties, saying she couldn't buy sugar or fish sauce and would wait for her grandson to pay when he had money. The monk was moved by the video shared by Sergeant Panu, who had helped the soldier connect with his family. The training instructor had previously taken the soldier to visit his grandparents and set up a video call. Later, the monk accompanied volunteers to visit the grandparents, 83-year-old Mr. Am Sripai and 78-year-old Mrs. Wanee Sriyu, bringing them essential supplies and a mobile phone. Mrs. Wanee shared that her grandson joined the military due to their poverty. The monk explained he wanted to help the family, providing support to the grandparents of a soldier protecting Thailand's border, and was happy to see their smiles when receiving the phone and supplies.
