Cooperative Department Launches Massive Coconut Purchase to Boost Prices
Nirund Moolthida, Director-General of the Cooperative Promotion Department, visited Samut Sakhon province to address the coconut market crisis. Coconut farmers are experiencing severe price drops, with prices falling from 23-28 baht per coconut in February to just 2 baht currently. The department is implementing a strategic intervention through cooperative networks, targeting the purchase of 1 million coconuts from Samut Sakhon and Ratchaburi provinces. They plan to redistribute these coconuts to cooperative networks in the Northeastern region, with initial distribution of 20,000 coconuts to various provincial cooperatives. The cooperative network will purchase coconuts from farmers at 5 baht per coconut and sell them at 6-7 baht, helping to stabilize prices and provide some relief to struggling farmers.
