Mark Demands Election Commission Reveal Scoring Sheets to Prove Election Transparency
Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is demanding that the Election Commission (EC) reveal voting scorecards from each polling unit, hoping citizens can verify results. He argues that if the EC is truly transparent, they should not hide information, particularly highlighting concerns about ballot bar codes potentially compromising voting secrecy.
Abhisit pointed out discrepancies in vote counting, including an incident in Songkhla's District 3 where district and party-list ballot differences totaled 13,000 ballots. He also shared an example from Bangkok where a candidate's 71 votes were recorded as just 1 vote on the summary sheet.
'If the EC is confident everything is transparent, they should disclose the scoring sheets,' Abhisit stated. He emphasized that failing to do so could erode public trust in the electoral system and potentially lead to undesirable consequences.
He also criticized the bar codes on ballots, arguing that they violate the constitutional principle of secret voting, which should prevent anyone from identifying an individual's vote.
