On February 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM, Major General Sathit Waiyanont, commander of Pha Muang Task Force and director of the Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Operations Center, coordinated with military and police units to investigate a drug seizure following an armed confrontation. The incident occurred near Ban Puna in Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province, after receiving intelligence about potential drug smuggling from neighboring countries. During the operation, cavalry troops encountered 4-5 suspicious individuals carrying modified sacks, which led to a 5-minute gunfight. After the suspects fled, authorities recovered 3 sacks of crystal methamphetamine weighing approximately 60 kg (19 kg, 20 kg, and 21 kg respectively). The commander has ordered continued strict border surveillance and the evidence will be handed over to local police for further legal proceedings.
