Grilled Food Vendor Loses Wallet, Mystery Woman Withdraws 25,000 Baht from ATM

On February 19, a 35-year-old grilled food vendor from Udon Thani, Ms. Nang (surname withheld), and her 42-year-old husband Chalermphol reported a wallet theft at Muang Thong Market. Security camera footage showed a plump woman in a green shirt picking up the dropped wallet near a black car. The thief subsequently withdrew 25,000 baht from the couple's bank account in two transactions - 5,000 baht and 20,000 baht. The money was carefully saved for buying a laptop for their child. Ms. Nang believes the theft was possible because the ATM PIN was written on the card. She emotionally pleaded for the return of the money and documents, promising not to press charges. Police have accepted the report and will investigate using CCTV footage, warning citizens not to write PIN codes on ATM cards.
