Fresh from Youth - Artwork in the Children's Day Stamp 2026
In an era of rapid video content and short-form media, stamps remain one of the few mediums that stand still, yet within that stillness lies a profound power - the power of pausing, gradually reading, and interpreting with one's heart. For National Children's Day 2026, the Thai Post Office has selected the Children's Day stamp as a special space to convey art and imagination, inviting Professor Kerick Yupan, the National Artist of 2022, who has worked with Thai children's worlds for over 40 years, to translate the 'world of children' through artistic works on a single square inch of stamp. Professor Kerick explained that this work began by questioning the heart of storytelling for children - not in terms of content, but in terms of emotions, feelings, and the rhythm of worldview. The stamp images do not attempt to tell the entire story, but choose to pause in brief moments that open space for viewers' imagination. Carefully examining the stamp reveals intentionally imperfect lines, round-faced characters with rosy cheeks, vivid colors, and elements that seem to escape academic artistic frameworks. This is a deliberately chosen visual language, as if drawn by children's hands, because overly perfect images unconsciously close children's imagination. The placement of space, color balance, and selection of symbols subtly connect children's worlds with Thai culture. Professor Kerick views the Children's Day stamp not as a momentary gift for children, but as a letter to the future - leaving traces of thoughts and feelings for Thai children to revisit themselves later. The images do not conclude, directly teach, or dictate how one should think or feel, but open space for individual interpretation based on life experiences.
