Weather Update: Meteorological Department Warns of New Cold Air Mass Causing Temperature Drop
The Meteorological Department's 24-hour forecast indicates a new moderate cold air mass has already spread over southern China and is expected to cover Vietnam and northern Laos today. It will then move towards the upper northeastern region, causing temperatures to drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius and bringing cold to very cold conditions.
Other regions will experience cold to very cold weather with morning fog and dense fog in some areas. Light rain is expected in some eastern regions. Citizens are advised to take care of their health due to changing weather conditions and exercise caution when traveling through foggy areas.
The southern region will continue to have minimal rainfall due to a weakening northeast monsoon covering the lower Gulf of Thailand and southern Thailand. Wave conditions in the lower Gulf are moderate, with waves 1-2 meters high. The upper Gulf and Andaman Sea will have waves around 1 meter.
From February 1-4, northern Thailand will experience temperature drops as the new moderate cold air mass from China spreads over the region. Particulate matter levels in the northern, central, and eastern regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, are expected to be moderate to relatively high due to poor air dispersion.
Detailed regional forecasts include:
- North: Cold to very cold, with temperatures ranging from 14-19°C (ground) and 5-13°C (mountain peaks)
- Northeast: Cold with temperatures dropping 1-2°C, ranging from 14-19°C
- Central: Cool with morning fog, temperatures 18-20°C
- East: Cool with light rain, temperatures 20-23°C
- Southern regions: Cool mornings with light rain, temperatures varying between 20-25°C depending on the area
