Unveiling a New Amulet - Luang Pho Phum's Coin
Luang Pho Phum was a famous Buddhist monk from the Thonburi area, known for his strict religious practices and expertise in Vipassana meditation. With an outstanding reputation in dharma practice, he was promoted to Phra Palad Phum on January 9, 1921, and later appointed as a senior monk. He received recognition from the Supreme Patriarch at Wat Suthat Thepwararam, who praised his profound meditation skills. His reputation was so significant that even Prince Chumphon once rowed to Wat Bang Khlo Nok to pay respects to him. A key figure among the top monks of his era, he participated in the Buddhist blessing ceremony at Wat Ratchabophit in Bangkok in 1938. He passed away in 1946 at the age of 89, after 69 years in monastic life. Luang Pho Phum created his own commemorative coins uniquely, personally blessing each one by blowing on it before giving it away. At the time, these coins were sold for just five baht each, and he produced only a few limited editions. The first edition copper coin became especially popular. Featuring a half-body portrait with deep, sharp eyes and distinctive details on the monk's robe, these coins are now rare and highly sought after by collectors, commanding high prices in the amulet market.
