High-Tech Cybercrime on the Rise! NHSO Joins Forces for 'SIDTH 2026' to Combat AI Scammers and Protect Digital Well-being
The National Health Promotion Fund (NHSO) is organizing the Safer Internet Day Thailand 2026 (SIDTH 2026) to combat high-tech criminals using AI to target vulnerable populations. Dr. Pongthep Wongwatchaipaiboot, NHSO's fund manager, revealed alarming concerns about digital threats that now extend beyond financial losses to include online child sexual abuse and fake health information spread through AI. The organization is employing a 'Triangle Moving Mountains' strategy by coordinating efforts between public, academic, and government policy sectors to create effective AI monitoring and prevention mechanisms. The event aims to demonstrate that internet safety is a collective responsibility, requiring policy oversight and practical innovative protection tools to transform AI into a learning tool rather than a tool for social destruction. Assoc. Prof. Jumpon Rodkamdee, President of the Thai Internet Safety Network, highlighted shocking statistics: Thailand has accumulated over 270,000 technology crime cases causing damages exceeding 24 billion baht, and ranks second globally in cyberbullying, with 55% of children and youth experiencing such issues.
