Border Residents Furious with Cambodia's Deliberate Provocations, Urge Military and Government to Take Decisive Action
Border residents in Buriram province are feeling increasingly angry about Cambodia's daily provocations. They believe the recent incident of Cambodian soldiers firing 40mm mortar shells near Thai military bases in Kantharalak, Si Sa Ket province, was intentional and not an accident. Local residents are worried about a potential third round of confrontations and are calling on the military and government to resolve the border dispute decisively, whether through negotiations or military action.
Two local residents, 66-year-old Khamoon Chamram and 82-year-old Lek Saengngam, expressed their concerns. They believe the ongoing border tensions are likely connected to political interests and potential business conflicts. Both stressed that border communities are living in constant fear, with agricultural lands like rubber plantations, sugarcane, and cassava farms located dangerously close to the border.
The residents want a definitive resolution to prevent further uncertainty and provocations, emphasizing that while they do not want war, they also cannot continue living in constant fear of Cambodian attacks.
