Navy Seizes 154 kg of Kratom and Cough Syrup in Cross-Border Smuggling Operation
The Royal Thai Navy has advanced its cross-border drug suppression operations, with the Chiang Rai naval patrol unit seizing 154 kilograms of kratom and 1,191 bottles of cough syrup smuggled along the Mekong River. On February 8, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the naval unit conducted a routine patrol in the Mekong River border area, specifically in Huay Kiang Village, Wiang Subdistrict, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province. The seizure included one motorcycle and was part of ongoing efforts to intercept transnational drug trafficking. The Navy remains committed to maintaining border security and continuously suppressing cross-border drug operations to prevent threats to national security and public safety.
