Car Mechanic Dies After Jack Collapses While Repairing Vehicle

The incident occurred on February 1st in Buriram province, where Thawatchai, a 55-year-old car repair shop owner, was working alone underneath an Isuzu pickup truck. While changing the rear wheel bearings, the jack unexpectedly collapsed, causing the vehicle to fall and crush him. The victim's nephew, Worachat, 24, said he first saw only his uncle's legs under the truck and later discovered the vehicle tilted at an odd angle. Upon checking, he found his uncle had been fatally injured. He then used another jack to lift the vehicle and remove his uncle's body before alerting the village head. The car's owner, Prayad, 54, explained that the pickup had been brought in for repairs after an accident and required rear wheel bearing replacement. Thawatchai was an experienced mechanic with over 20 years of experience. Investigators believe the accident occurred because the jack was unstable on the dirt ground, and the mechanic was working alone without anyone to assist him. The ground's uneven surface likely contributed to the jack's sudden collapse, resulting in the tragic fatal accident.
