Udon Thani Stirred: Pheu Thai Candidate Requests Election Commission to Suspend Result Certification After Losing by 882 Votes
On February 16, at the Udon Thani Election Commission office, Theerachai Saenkaew, a Pheu Thai MP candidate for Udon Thani's District 7, filed a complaint requesting to suspend the election result certification from February 8. He believes the vote counting process may not have been conducted fairly and impartially.
Theerachai revealed that in the unofficial results, he received 27,904 votes, coming in second behind Suriya Wongaree of the People's Party, who received 28,786 votes - a difference of only 882 votes. Notably, there were 3,440 invalid ballots, which is historically high and could potentially impact the election outcome.
His complaint highlighted several issues including confusion in vote counting, potential irregularities in ballot assessment, document number alterations, and problems with the Election Commission's reporting system. Theerachai requested a comprehensive review of vote counting, re-examination of invalid ballots, and potentially a new election in the district to ensure transparency.
