Grand Imam of Ayasofya Mosque from Türkiye Visits Thailand to Launch Cooperation Center
Professor Dr. Mehmet Emin Ay, the Grand Imam of Ayasofya Mosque in Istanbul, made an official visit to Thailand. He is a professor of Islamic Studies at Uludağ University and a former provincial mufti affiliated with the Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı (Directorate of Religious Affairs) of Türkiye.
The event marked the official launch of the Thailand–Türkiye Cooperation Center (TTC) and was held at Geric University's International Conference Hall. The ceremony was attended by high-level executives and representatives from various sectors, including:
- Associate Professor Dr. Pornphan Chantaronananont, Rector of Geric University
- Ajarn Kassamara Iemphatcharawut, Director of the Thailand-Türkiye Cooperation Center
- Professor Dr. Jarun Maluleem, Vice Rector for International Affairs
- Diplomatic representatives from both countries, including former ambassadors and counsellors
The center's establishment is a significant milestone in elevating the relationship between Thailand and Türkiye, moving from symbolic cooperation to institutional collaboration. The center aims to focus on knowledge development, academic exchange, promotion of religion, culture, economy, and youth participation in international platforms.
Kassamara Iemphatcharawut emphasized that the center's goal is to create a central platform for cooperation between educational institutions, government agencies, religious sectors, businesses, and citizens of both countries, promoting mutual understanding and exchange.
