Mother Grieves After Teacher's Car Kills 6-Year-Old Daughter on Crosswalk
On February 15, 2024, a teacher named Kanokwan (last name withheld), 32 years old, struck and killed a 6-year-old first-grade student while she was crossing a crosswalk near a school in Buriram province on January 22nd, just days before the child's birthday. The victim's mother, Waranya Lakchai, 27, expressed deep sorrow, stating she has only one daughter. The teacher initially provided 27,000 baht for funeral expenses and later offered 100,000 baht in compensation, while the mother requested 300,000 baht. Insurance payouts of 1,000,000 baht are pending until fault is legally determined. The mother believes the teacher should accept responsibility for hitting a child on a school crosswalk, where drivers must be especially cautious.
