Temple Tourism - Visiting Phra That Doi Lek, a Sacred Site in Phrae Province
Phra That Doi Lek is a significant religious site in Phrae Province, located on a high mountain southeast of Phra That Cho Hae, about 3 kilometers away, and northeast of Phra That Chom Chaeng, approximately 4 kilometers. Phra Methee Vajiradhamma (Boon Chit Atithammo), an advisory monk for Phrae Province and abbot of Wat Phra That Doi Lek, shared the historical background of the site. The exact construction date is uncertain, but it has existed alongside Phra That Cho Hae and Phra That Chom Chaeng. Local elders' stories suggest that the Lord Buddha visited the area, and a small chedi was built by Khun Lua Ai Kom on a mountain where he surveyed the landscape. The site was later named Phra That Doi Lek, which is the highest Buddha relic location in Phrae Province. In 1997, the site was renovated under the supervision of Phra Maha Boon Chit Atithammo, with support from local authorities. Today, Phra That Doi Lek offers a panoramic view of three districts: Sung Men, Mueang Phrae, and Rong Kwang, and is accessible by road for pilgrims and visitors.
