Not Out Yet! US Maintains Thailand's Watch List Status for Intellectual Property Concerns
Government spokesperson Lalida Pherishwiwattana revealed that the Cabinet acknowledged the US Trade Representative's Special 301 report for 2025, which continues to place Thailand on the Watch List alongside 18 other countries. The annual report evaluates the intellectual property protection levels of trading partners, categorizing countries into three groups: those with severe IP violations, those requiring special monitoring, and those under watchlist status. The report noted some progress, including Thailand's draft patent law improvements and efforts to combat IP infringements, while also highlighting ongoing concerns in areas such as copyright law delays and patent registration backlogs. The US expressed appreciation for Thailand's development efforts, particularly in improving IP enforcement and collaboration between government agencies and rights holders.
