Monk Goes Berserk: Challenges Village Chief to Fight, Demands Monastic Authorities Investigate

On February 3rd, 2024, a shocking incident occurred at Samakkhi Tham Forest Temple in Udon Thani province. Sirisak Khaisaengchan, the local village chief, was alerted about a 58-year-old monk displaying erratic behavior. When officials arrived, the monk was found sitting on a monastery building, appearing intoxicated, and acting aggressively. He challenged local officials to fight, removing his robes and pointing accusingly at them. Police attempted to calm the situation, and the monk eventually backed down after being warned. Local residents reported that the monk had been causing disturbances, destroying property, and verbally abusing both villagers and other monks.
