Police Reenact Fatal Shooting with Suspected Gunman
On 29 January 2026, police took the suspected gunman Thanthaphisit, 48, to reenact a fatal shooting across nine locations. The suspect is accused of murdering Phayom Sangthong, a candidate for chief executive of the Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, on 19 December 2025.
Police traced the suspect's movements, including picking him up from Hat Yai International Airport, changing vehicle license plates, and following the victim's car before firing three shotgun blasts at Tha Maprang intersection. During questioning, Thanthaphisit apologized to the victim's family and expressed regret, facing charges of premeditated murder, illegal firearm possession, and carrying a weapon without permission.
The reenactment was led by senior police officials from Provincial Police Region 9, who meticulously documented the suspect's actions at each location. Four suspects, including the alleged gunman, were detained for court remand.
