Case Closed: Arrest of 4 Suspects in Hired Gunman Assassination of 'Village Headman Yong'

Police Region 9 announced the arrest of a criminal gang responsible for killing Phayom Sang Thong (known as Village Headman Yong), a local administrative organization candidate from Tha Cha Muang Subdistrict in Phatthalung Province. The victim was shot dead inside his vehicle on the Phru On-Tha Maprang road in Thung Nari Subdistrict, Pha Bon District, Phatthalung Province on the evening of May 19, 2025. The operation was conducted under the direction of the National Police Chief and high-ranking commanders, involving Police Region 9, Crime Suppression Division, and local police from Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces. Four suspects were arrested across different provinces: 1. Mr. Kowit (62 years old), arrested in Hat Yai, Songkhla 2. Mr. Thanphisit (48 years old), the alleged gunman, arrested in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai 3. Mr. Sakchai (50 years old), the getaway driver, arrested in Muang, Songkhla 4. Mr. Witthawat (41 years old), another driver, arrested in Muang, Nakhon Nayok All suspects face charges of premeditated murder, illegal possession of firearms, and carrying weapons in public without authorization. The case had drawn widespread public attention due to its brutal nature.
