Joint Forces Raid 7 Warehouses at Rong Kluea Market, Intercepting Illegal Cross-Border Internet Signals
On February 6, 2024, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thaworn Dunnawit, Sa Kaeo Provincial Police Commander, along with Major General Bancha Chankhalad and officials from NBTC, local police, AIS, and 3BB FIBRE3, conducted a joint investigation at the Central Investigation Bureau's (CIB) request. They searched suspicious warehouses following citizen tips and discovered abnormal internet usage patterns. During the raid, officials found modified computer and internet signal distribution equipment, including VPN systems and cross-border connection devices. The equipment was illegally transmitting internet signals without authorization. All devices were immediately seized and signal transmission was stopped. Pol. Maj. Gen. Thaworn revealed that the operation was a multi-agency collaboration to strictly screen and control internet signal transmission from Thailand to Cambodia. Initially, 7 suspicious locations were identified, with the first warehouse located 50 meters from the border, featuring long-range wireless signal equipment pointed towards Cambodia. The remaining 6 locations, situated 2-3 kilometers from the border, had additional signal transmission devices without proper legal permissions. The Central Investigation Bureau is currently collecting evidence, investigating involved parties, and preparing to pursue legal action. AIS and 3BB FIBRE3 have committed to continuing cooperation with security agencies to prevent telecommunication network misuse and block online criminal activities in border areas.
