Revealed! Where the Gun Came From: Gunman Attacks School in Hat Yai, Students Flee and Fall, Injured
On February 11, 2024, an 18-year-old male armed with a gun invaded Phatong Thankhiriwat School in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, shooting and injuring teachers and students while taking multiple students hostage. Prior to the school incident, police had investigated the suspect for drug-related erratic behavior, during which he had used an axe to attack people in the Ban Pru area and then stole an MPX 9mm firearm from a police vehicle. The perpetrator forced teachers and students into a meeting room, taking the school director hostage and firing one shot. The suspected motive was revenge against a teacher who had previously punished his sister. During the chaos, one female student fell from the second floor of the school building, suffering injuries. Police ultimately controlled the situation and arrested the suspect, with a total of four people injured in the incident.
