Caught Red-Handed: Chinese Call Center Gang Scams 74-Year-Old Woman Out of 520,000 Baht

On February 11, 2024, police fromHua Mak Police Station, led by Police Colonel Prasop Eiam-Pinit and Lieutenant Colonel Nattawat Tharak, arrested Mr. He Jianxuan, a 22-year-old Chinese national, near a mansion on Ramkhamhaeng 58/3 Street in Bangkok. The arrest followed a complaint by a 74-year-old woman from Nonthaburi province who was scammed by criminals posing as mobile network officials. The scammers claimed her name was involved in illegal activities and tricked her into adding them on Line and delivering cash. The victim initially transferred 520,000 baht, and was then manipulated into preparing an additional 320,000 baht. Police set up a sting operation, with the victim coordinating to meet the scammer. When the suspect arrived and signaled with two fingers as pre-arranged, officers moved in to arrest him. Seized items included a mobile phone, Chinese documents, and various bags. The suspect confessed to fraud charges and was handed over to investigators.
