Pollution Control Department Inspects Massive Algae Spread at Patong Beach, Phuket

The Pollution Control Department conducted an inspection of algae spread at Patong Beach in Phuket on February 6th. They found large quantities of green and red algae primarily in the southern section of the beach, with smaller amounts in the northern and central areas. Preliminary water quality tests at three locations showed parameters within standard ranges, though the abundant algae might negatively affect beach aesthetics and potentially create unpleasant odors. The Phuket Environmental and Pollution Control Office noted that the bay's water quality index is currently rated as 'fair', with nutrient levels contributing to algae proliferation. Patong Municipality has been tasked with daily algae removal to mitigate tourism impacts.
