Abhisit Campaigns in Thung Yai, Wears "Southern Hearts United" Shirt, Asks to Return as Prime Minister
On February 1st, 2026, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party and prime ministerial candidate, visited Thung Yang Market in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Accompanied by party executives including Chaichana Detchdecho, who oversees the Southern region, Abhisit was there to support MP candidate Chomkai Sawatdiwong.
Wearing a shirt that read "Southern Hearts United", Abhisit engaged with the crowd. Chaichana playfully asked locals "Who's more handsome - Mark or Pita?" to which the crowd enthusiastically shouted "Mark!"
Abhisit thanked the Southern people for their long-standing support, emphasizing his 30-year political journey. He pledged to fight against corruption and create honest politics. The party presented ambitious infrastructure plans, including a southern motorway and railway connecting to Malaysia, Nong Khai, Vientiane, and China.
He also addressed potential electoral intimidation, stating that the Democrat Party has always worked for all regions and provinces fairly. Towards the end of his speech, Abhisit made passionate calls for voter support, urging people to vote for at least two party candidates on February 8th.
Criticizing current political corruption, he claimed that while officials receive modest salaries, billions are being embezzled, hindering economic growth and social justice.
