Social Security Office Disburses 160 Million Baht in Unemployment Benefits, Prepares to Transfer Funds to 130,000 Insured Persons
On February 1st, 2024, Ms. Kanchana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, announced that the office continues to provide unemployment benefits to insured persons affected by economic challenges. The goal is to alleviate hardships and rebuild confidence in the social security system.
Previously, there were delays in processing unemployment benefit payments due to system changes and development of new processing systems. To address this urgent situation, the Social Security Office has implemented emergency measures. Each provincial office has been instructed to mobilize staff to expedite and approve pending unemployment cases, extending working hours from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM. This allows them to approve more than 35,000 payment orders daily.
Between January 8-31, the office has already transferred unemployment benefits to 75,387 individuals, totaling 190,071,088.15 baht. On February 2-3, an additional 133,017 insured persons will receive unemployment benefits through bank transfers, amounting to 428,082,248.60 baht.
Ms. Kanchana reaffirmed the Social Security Office's commitment to fully protecting the rights of insured persons, ensuring payments are made correctly, transparently, completely, and fairly.
