Deputy PM Sucharat Urgently Controls Forestry Fire at Phu Khiao, Deploys Helicopters to Drop Over 38,000 Liters of Water
On February 20, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources Sucharat Chumklin closely monitored the forest fire situation in the Northeastern region. He directed the Northeast Regional Operations Center to support aerial operations to control the fire in the Phu Khiao Wildlife Sanctuary in Nong Bua Daeng District, Chaiyaphum Province. The helicopter HS 5119 conducted reconnaissance missions and water drops, collaborating with wildlife sanctuary staff and fire response teams of over 30 personnel. Throughout the mission, 78 water-dropping flights were completed, depositing over 38,500 liters of water in 6 hours and 35 minutes, successfully controlling 95% of the fire's spread. The deputy PM emphasized continued vigilance, prevention of fire reignition, and rapid situation management to minimize impacts on natural resources and public health, while preparing aircraft and staff for potential fires during the dry season.
