Aerothai Launches Air Traffic Flow Management System ATFAS 2.0, Targeting Green Aviation
The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Company Limited (Aerothai) has launched a new Air Traffic Flow Management system version ATFAS 2.0, prepared to drive the Thai aviation industry towards green aviation.
On January 30, 2024, Surachai Nuprom, Deputy Director General and Acting Director General of Aerothai, revealed that the organization has been providing Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) services for domestic and international flights continuously since 2559 (2016).
Based on concrete operational statistics from 2019 to the present, the system has created significant results for the aviation industry in terms of cost reduction and environmental impact. It has helped airlines save over 60 million kilograms of fuel, valued at more than 1.9 billion baht. Additionally, it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by over 189 million kilograms, aligning with the Green ATM concept of becoming a leading environmentally-friendly air traffic management organization in the region.
Surachai added that after developing the ATFM system and testing the Air Traffic Flow Advisory System version 2.0 (ATFAS 2.0), the new system can process real-time aviation data with high precision. It helps manage airport and airspace density in line with current air traffic conditions.
The system also reduces coordination burden for flight time adjustments between airlines and the Bangkok Air Traffic Flow Management Center, averaging 2,000 times per month. This represents an upgrade in data management capabilities, moving towards digital technology that can analyze and predict aviation situations more accurately.
Beyond increasing air traffic management flexibility, it creates new standards in airspace management that help improve cost efficiency for airlines. Aerothai remains committed to continuously developing aviation technology and innovation, serving as a key driver to push Thailand towards sustainable green aviation goals.
