Young Chinese Team Shatters 2 World Records for Paper Airplane Flight in Under 2 Months
A group of Chinese teenagers have made history by breaking two world records for paper airplane flight within 60 days, with flights lasting over 31 seconds and reaching nearly 100 meters. The previous world record of 29.2 seconds, set in December 2010 by Japanese inventor Takuo Toda, had stood for over a decade. On February 11, the teen enthusiasts gathered at the Kunshan Sports Center with their top 10 paper airplane designs, rigorously testing under strict rules including indoor flight and using standard A4 paper. Hao Chongyi, 16, from Jiangxi province, achieved flight times of 29.70 and 31.15 seconds, while team member Liu Liwen reached 31.19 and 31.25 seconds, clearly breaking the 30-second barrier. The team had previously come close in August, missing the record by just 0.2 seconds, which motivated them to train even harder. Additionally, on December 28, they set another world record by flying a paper airplane 98.43 meters, nearly 10 meters further than the 2022 world record.
