Phichit Chaos: 69-Year-Old Woman Tears Up Ballot, Claims Accidental Voting Mistake
On February 8, 2024 at 12:30 PM, Amorn Ratchtangkul, the Election Commission director for Phichit province, reported an incident at Bung Naram district's Polling Unit 5 at Khlong Khoi Temple. Yupin Sae-Kuay, 69, accidentally marked the wrong candidate number and became panicked, secretly tearing up her ballot in the voting booth. Yupin claimed she mistakenly believed she could request a new ballot from election officials if she marked or tore the original ballot. Election security personnel coordinated with local police to document the incident and prepare legal proceedings. The police will investigate Yupin for damaging government property. Meanwhile, other voting units saw active participation, with only Tambon Tanong experiencing lower voter turnout.
