Wild Elephant Kills Tourist at Khao Yai, Third Fatal Attack by Same Bull
A wild elephant from Khao Yai National Park killed a 69-year-old tourist at a park campsite early on 2 February 2026, marking the third fatal attack linked to the same bull, authorities said. The incident occurred around 05:30 at the Khlong Pla Kang ranger unit campsite in Wang Nam Khiao district. The victim, Jiratchai Jiraphatboonyathorn from Lopburi, was attacked while on a morning walk by a bull elephant named Plai Oi Wan, who was in musth. The elephant attacked with its trunk and trampled the man about 20 metres from his tent, with other campers watching in fear. Park rangers and police later drove the elephant away. Local authorities are now considering options to manage the dangerous elephant, including relocation or pushing it away from community areas.
