Massive Illegal Cigarette Network Dismantled in Southern Thailand, Over 20 Million Cigarettes Seized with Fines Exceeding 1,000 Million Baht
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led an operation in Hat Yai, Songkhla province to dismantle one of the largest illegal cigarette networks in Southern Thailand. The operation, named 'Singh Catches Prey', resulted in the seizure of over 2,000 cartons, totaling 20 million cigarettes, with 14 suspects arrested. Initial estimates show the government lost over 67 million baht in revenue, with potential fines exceeding 1,000 million baht. Eleven vehicles used in the smuggling operation were also seized. Anutin warned potential criminals that law enforcement will pursue these cases to the fullest extent and urged officials not to fear criminal influences.
