Fatal Collision at Hua Kuan Intersection: Pickup Truck Causes Massive Accident
On February 1st, 2024, police at Kamala Police Station received a report of a serious traffic accident at the Hua Kuan intersection in Moo 3, Kamala Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket.
At the scene, police found a gray Yamaha NMAX motorcycle (license plate 1กต 9877) overturned on the road. Nearby, the body of a Thai female was discovered. Another Thai woman was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident: a Nissan Navara pickup truck (license plate ขจ 2317 from Nakhon Si Thammarat), driven by Phasakorn Athikerd, 44; an MG VS car (license plate ขต 3134 from Phuket), driven by Yan Ji, 41; and a Toyota Commuter van (license plate 31-2576 from Phuket), driven by Chawalit Muen Singh, 37.
Preliminary investigations suggest the pickup truck driver may have fallen asleep while driving, causing him to crash into a van stopped at a red light, which then led to a chain reaction collision. Alcohol tests for all drivers showed 0 milligrams percent.
Police will continue investigating by collecting witness statements, reviewing CCTV footage, and gathering evidence to determine the exact cause of the accident.
