Pol. Col. Tawee Meets Over 2,000 Religious Leaders, Raises 'Justice Brings Peace' Flag for Ramadan
Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Pracharath Party and former Justice Minister, participated in the annual Ramadan welcome event at the Yala Islamic Committee Office. The event was attended by Abdul Basi Che Mama, Yala Islamic Committee Chairman, along with over 2,000 Islamic committee members and imams from mosques across Yala province.
Tawee delivered a keynote speech highlighting the importance of Ramadan and his political stance on solving Southern Border Provinces issues. He emphasized that justice is the only foundation for sustainable peace, stating, 'Justice must come first. When justice occurs, peace will follow. The state's duty is to facilitate and elevate the quality of life for Thai Muslim brothers and sisters, allowing them to maintain their cultural identity with pride.'
The party leader discussed structural problems in the region, pointing out that the state has historically prioritized 'state security' over 'human security', resulting in resource-rich areas becoming among the poorest. He highlighted educational challenges, noting Narathiwat province has the highest number of children dropping out of the education system due to poverty.
In his closing remarks, Tawee spoke about accepting the identity, language, and religion of Malay people, viewing past conflicts as a result of state power inconsistent with local lifestyle and history. He stressed the need to create communication spaces for locals to share their stories, helping Thai society overcome bias and create a 'livable peace' based on mutual acceptance.
