Arrest in Robes: Van Driver Caught at Temple After Fatal Hit-and-Run
On February 21, 2024, senior police officials led an operation to arrest Chamroen, a 64-year-old van driver wanted on a court warrant from Yasothon Province for negligent driving causing death. The suspect was caught at a temple in the Ladprao area of Bangkok. According to the investigation, the driver had run a red light at high speed, violently striking a motorcycle and killing the rider. After being released on bail, the suspect fled and became a monk to avoid being tracked by authorities and cut off contact with the outside world. Police investigators tracked him down to a temple in Sukonthaswat 3 Alley. During initial questioning, the suspect confessed to the charges. He was then disrobed and transferred to the Yasothon Provincial Court to face legal proceedings.
